The Bean Goose (Anser fabalis)

The breeding range of the bean goose stretches across Eurasia, beginning in Fennoscandia and across the Northeast of Asia. In all there are five recognised subspecies. The been goose is mainly breeding in the arctic Taiga and the Taiga forest zones. In Europa the main breedding populations are in Sweden, Finland and Northern Russia. For wintering the been geese use three different flyways and the majority of the birds winter in Sweden, Denmark and Germany.

Voices: Less vocal than the other grey geese. It utters a rich "ung-unk", it sounds lower and more reedy than similar calls of the Pink-footed Goose.

Habitat: In Winter the been goose settles inland, on grasslands near fresh water. The bean goose breeds in the arctic circle among forest trees near rivers and lakes.
