The Greylag Goose (Anser anser)

 

 

The greylag goose breeds across most of Eurasia with its breeding range extending from Iceland in the West, across Europa into Russia and across Sibiria to the East coast of Russia on the Pacific Ocean. There are three subspecias acknowledge and seven native populations exists in Europe: Iceland, Scotland, Norway, The Western Baltics, Central Europa, Black Sea and Caspian Sea.

 

Voice: The Greylag Goose utters the same nasal and reedy gabbling notes as the domestic goose. "aahng ung-ung" or "gagagag" or so.

 

Habitat:  In winter on grasslands, arable fields near coasts, marshes, estuaries and rivers. Breeds sociably on moors, marshes, reed-beds, boggy thickets and islets.
